Help me choose a do-it-all cab

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm on the market for a cabinet and I really wanted one that can do it all. I'm not looking for 210's, 410's but something somewhat like a 3-way or more speaker enclosure. That has consistent volume and tone throughout the range (i play 5's and 6's) and has a tweeter than can give 'glassy' but not harsh highs. To give an example I present to you: Schroeder "Superior Sound" Cabinets

But i'm looking for other alternatives. I don't want a refrigerator for a cabinet so let's keep this smaller than 810's or even 610's. Thank you guys so much for your time and responses

If you can find a Bergantino HT 322 used I would snag it. I only sold my due to finances. Killer cab.

Just about any 212, 410, or 156 would work.

It sounds like you're describing a fEARful cab to me. Check out the link in my signature to see all the different options. You could either make one yourself (which I did, and it was a lot of fun for me!), or you could have one made for you by one of the authorized builders listed on the fEARful site.

Good luck!

you might consider the epifani 310..it has a tweet.. Never actually heard one , tho.

Has a funny impedance (5.3 ohms), so it might work as a stand-alone cab.

You might want to check out Duke Lejeun's(AudioKinesis) upcoming Thunderchild 15.

How about a price range? Affordable do-it-all is the avatar TB153, 15” 3-way cab. Raves all around for performance + value.

fEARFUL has a vertical 212 cab with 6” midrange/tweeter that looks killer. Not sure of the price though. It has a tilt-back handle and wheels on it so you can pull it while carrying your bass in the other hand and your microhead over-the-shoulder. One trip!

Lots of good options, but in all honesty, from what you are describing, my first thought was "fEARful."

Duke's TC112 or TC115 would likely also do well for you, as would many of Jim Bergantino's cabs (his new HD212 might be the best option, if it sounds the way Jim tells me it will).

The Schroeder 15 with a B&C driver is awesome. Light, punchy, clear and thick. Love that cab.

+1. My criteria were a lot like the OP's, and after an extensive search, I knocked down a Berg HT322. Life changing; best cab I've ever owned. SVT volume levels with a voice that goes from polite to ferocious.

For me a pair of Acme B2 cabinets in a vertical stack does it all.

+1 for fEARful.

Depending how loud you want it, etc. there are quite a few configurations, but they all sound the same (ie, LOUD and clear). A 1212/6/1 would be able to push out a LOT of volume and is still a manageable size. I have a 15/6/1 and know I will be happy with it for the foreseeable future!

The Avatar TB153 is worth a mention, too. Affordable, uses the same woofer as a fEARful, but slightly compromised design due to using an existing cab, not one designed specifically for that configuration.

If you can wait a little before deciding (I hope tombowlus doesn't mind me mentioning it), there will be an article on the fEARfuls in the next issue Bass Gear

The first 1212/6 that actually got built goes back a couple years earlier:
