help me decide on a 610 or 810

I'm in the market to pick up either an ampeg 610 or an ampeg 810... I can get either one for around $400.

The 810 is a 90's model, and the 610 is a newer USA model.

810 is more beat up, 610 is in better shape.

I play in a 3 piece (not counting the singer), and a rather LOUD one at that.

I've got a Markbass LM3 and a VT Bass pedal.

We play metal - mostly standard tuning...

which one would serve me better?

Size/weight are a non-issue

FWIW, I've owned both, A/B'd them against each other (in decidedly non-scientific environments...), and they are different animals- I personally preferred the 610hlf, as it seemed to have (for me) more low mid grunt, is fatter sounding, and was more flexible tone-wise. The 8x10 has an unmistakable, classic sound, but is more of a one-trick pony (again, my opinion- yours may vary). The 8x10 was, to me, punchier than the 610.

The 610 is also a little easier to load in/out.

Keep in mind that the 610 has a horn in it, so you'll get more high end out of this, not sure if that is what you need, for metal... maybe?? I've had both, like them both, but I do agree that 810 is punchier, but the 610 did sound good, just fatter. Both are pretty stinkin loud. I currently have the 810, 610 is no longer with me, I'm glad I have the 810...
