Sign in to disble this ad
I currently have a gk 700rbii running into a mesa diesel 2x15. I play a 5 string fender jazz bass with stock pickups. I am new to country tone and am having a hard time getting a smooth yet boomy tone.

If anyone has some suggestions, please share . I fail at eq

I dunno that amp well, but I'd say leave the bass flat, slight boost of low mids, slight cut of treble- might get u in the park.

Turn the knobs until it sounds good. No one else can tell you what sounds good to your ear.

+1. I've found the bass to be a little too boomy, especially when you engage the 5 string voicing. The real low end presence & articulation resides within the low-mids.

Just start with as close to neutral as possible, no cut, no boost, and move the eq sliders/knobs, one at a time, in very small increments. Tweak until satisfied, but realise- what sounds good at home by yourself, will not sound good in a dense band mix. And, there is no particular "country tone". It's just a matter of personal taste.

Thank you for the replies. I will try what you have suggested. I used to used the "Eddie Van Halen school of tone" rule which is just turn everything to 10 and then back away as needed

Just keep in mind that once you go through the knobs once, you will have to go through again. What I mean is once you adjust the bass knob, and the mid, and so on, go back through them again because they will all sound different now that you have EQ'ed the rest of them.

And yes, bedroom tone is much different than stage tone. When adjusting the EQ, try doing it while playing along with some music and fairly loud volume.

That rig will definitely get you where you want to go.
