Help me hear me

Played a charity gig last night at the local theatre. I was using a barrowed Peavey TKO sitting on the floor. I had a horrible time hearing myself. I've had the same problem before.

I've considered a couple of solutions.

1. Buy a speaker stand that aims the 15 Neo cab I usually use at my ears. Seems logical, but.... where do I put my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0? Do I attach it to the top of the cab so that it won't fall off or...? Also, when I'm playing with a band that uses JBL Eon's with no subs, will I lose a lot of bottom end out front by not having the cab in contact with the floor?

2. Add a 210. This would also seem like a good fix except my 115 is a 4 ohm, so I would need a 16 ohm 210 to go with it, right? I would also want the new cab to be Neo.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

It would probably sound a lot better once you get it out of that barrow.

This is exactly why a small 4Ω cab is usually a bad idea IMO. If it were 8Ω you could get another one just like it, or an 8Ω 2x10 for that matter.

AFAIK, the Shuttle 6 doesn't run safely at 2Ω, so you would either need a new amp (either 2Ω cabable or a stereo amp) or ditch the cab and get new one(s).

OR, put your cab on a barrow to get it closer to ear level. A flight case for example would do the job, unless you also need more volume. If your cab has rat fur, some velcro will secure the amp on top.

15's are very directional, meaning a lot of sound flying past you at knee level. If you're right in front of the amp, set it up on something. If you're a little ways in front of it, wedging something under the front edge to tilt it back a bit may be enough. You may also have been standing in a bad spot. Boundry cancellation from a wall taking out frequencies you need to hear, try moving the amp a couple feet one way or another.

The Shuttle 6 has a 4Ω minimum so you don't have the choice of safely adding a second cabinet of any kind.

As a general rule of thumb when adding a cabinet, an identical cabinet to what you already have is the best option.

IMO you might be best served by a pair of 8Ω 2x10s in a vertical stack. This will get drivers up closer to your ears so you can hear better.
