Help me identify this cab!

This sucker is for sale locally for 200 bucks...I have no idea what it is, just know that it's a 2x15. Amp gurus, what say you? My first reaction was a Sunn of some sort, but then I realized I know next to nothing about vintage Sunns, so who knows!? Thanks for the help!

That's Kasino grille cloth, so it's probably a Kasino. Made by Kustom. Might be good.

Ha, that's a famous 215mm Kustom cab. I think you lose a lot of low end with 15mm speakers, but according to Bill Fitzmaurice....

IMO if you can't figure out what it is and don't what what drivers are inside it's not worth $200. If it sounds OK it might be worth taking a chance for $100.

"Don't let those pin-stripes fool Ya, It isn't gangsta!"

I'd pass on it, unless it sounded good. I highly doubt it will though, as it looks mighty shallow (not alot of internal volume). If You hit it with some serious volume and bass freq's, it'd probably fart like crazy and dance around the floor like a cell phone set to vibrate on a coffee table.

Seems like a lot of those old 215's were very shallow, and not engineered well for being bass cabs. Probably wouldn't be a bad guitar cab though.

That is a Kasino 200 extension cabinet from circa 1970. It is built by Kustom. Many of those cabinets had a built in power amp in the back to run off of the Kustom 200s module outputs. I cant tell from the photo provided, but most of those cabinets also have tilt back casters making them easy to move. The stock speakers were CTS. If I were in the area I would have already bought it to match my Kasino 200 combo.

Sorry for the derail....
Which Ampeg 215 do You have(B25,V4,V2)?

I know that some of the old Ampeg 215's are shallow, but they made up for it with the overall width of the cab. A lot of those were 27" wide, to match heads like V4's and V2's. However, AFAIK the Ampeg V4 215 cab was a folded horn design.

These cabinets really needed to be ported. I ran a 3X15 Kustom "Tuck & Roll' cab with a matching 200 watt head and the gusts of wind that came out of the 2 front ports were like playing in a hurricane. A bit exaggerated but you get the point.

If you haven't seen one: 1970 KUSTOM 3-15" TUCK & ROLL SPEAKER CABINET & COVER | eBay

The B25B's speakers aren't exactly heavy duty and I believe the head was only 50w. Can't really expect it to take much more than the B25B head can deliver.

Thanks for the heads up, everyone.

I was hoping it was some "barn find" type thing, but honestly, this is better...I don't NEED to spend 200 bucks at the moment.

Because the ports were too small, along with the cab. Speaker design has advanced a wee bit in the last 40 years.

With all respects, not one of the negative posters has ever played through this cabinet. They do not know the measurements or the size of ports etc. I have used these cabinets and think they sound great. Give it a listen, if you like what you hear, buy it. If you dont, then let it be.

The "negative posters" do not have to play the amp for their statements to be true. And you might like the sound despite the stated problems. But the cab isn't worth $200 unless it has premium speakers (JBL, Altec...).

Had the Kasino 2x15 with the tilt-back casters as part of my first rig. This looks a bit smaller than the one I had, but then I was smaller myself at the time. IIFC it has a port at the bottom of the front baffle.

Played mine with a 70s Fender Bassman 50 head, sounded OK but was unusable when I upgraded to a 100w SS Yamaha head (couldn't handle the wattage). Heavy as a full-size statue of an elephant made out of lead, and big as the box the United Nations building came in.

No disrespect intended, I value all comments made by fellow TBers.

I wouldn't give 200 for it either unless the drivers are of some vintage value to someone. It certainly does look cool and may be worth modding if you can get it on the cheap. Some of those old 215's are sized about right to turn them into ported 212's or sealed 215's. Some old 212's about right for ported 210's or sealed 212's. I'd probably pick it up for 100 or less and fool with it for a while but I just do stuff like that.

Well I put Delta 15As in it, which are 8ohm. so its a 4 ohm cabinet right now. I'm running 200 watts into it, it's just not cutting it at high volume. Sounds great at practice volume though.
