Help modding my 2x12 cab!!!!!!!!

TBers!!! I have a Eden DXLT 2x12 cabinet. It rates for 400W at 8ohms and weighs a ton!!! I want to upgrade it with some NEO speakers. I'm looking for some direction. Your thoughts? I want it to be able to handle massive lows, and continue to provide nice mids. Please help!!!!! Much obliged...

I think you'd be time and money ahead to buy something closer to what you want, and sell the Eden.

The Eminence 3012ho would be a very good consideration, IMO. Flame suit on!!!!!

Putting the obligatory "calculate the internal dimensions and reverse engineer the port tuning in WINisd" advice aside, if you want to keep it 8Ω, you'll have a hard time finding anything suitable, other than maybe some faitals.

Ncognito, I'll check out the eminence speakers you suggested. Flame suit on, as in I will blow up the cab, or as in the cab will kill? Lol

"Flame suit on" in reference to all the people who would say " no, you can't do that". They are kinda right. You never know what you will get, when you stab a new set of drivers in a cab that wasn't designed for them. You really can measure the cab, and see if it falls within the manufacturers parameters. You can also try it, and if it doesn't sound good, put the original drivers back in. Then sell that cab, and build a cab specifically for the new drivers. Personally, I think you will not achieve that much weight savings by switching drivers. Most of the weight is in the cab itself. Probably 3/4" mdf, and very heavy. 5 or 8 lbs saved by switching drivers wouldn't be enough for me to justify spending that much money on "not a sure thing". Just build a new cab. You can do eeeeet!!!!

1 more thing, I have drunk the fEarful KoolAid, and it's WONDERFUL. They can be purchased in a kit, and deliver what you described, in spades. Ncognito's cabs seem very interesting too, but not DIY. You might inquire about his designs. As for weight, my 15/6 weighs in @ 53lbs, with a serious grille on it (13lbs). Less serious grilles, and I could be @ 43lbs. 3012HO is a very nice driver, btw. Good luck in whatever you choose.

I swapped the blown PAS drivers in a SWR Goliath Sr. 610 for a full set of Deltalites that I bought direct from Avatar, even after being told by all of the internet experts that it wouldn't sound good because the cab wasn't designed for those specific drivers. Sounded fantastic. Cab weight was reduced by more than a third and the power handling doubled. Of course I saw such a drastic reduction in weight because I replaced 6 drivers, you're swapping two, so the weight reduction won't be as noticeable, but a reduction of 10lbs is pretty significant for that cab.

I say go for it and swap them drivers. It's the only way to know for sure.
