Help! My Aguilar GS212 Tweeter Died!

Sign in to disble this ad
I just noticed that I'm missing the top end on my GS212! I have taken apart my cab, all the connections look good. I'm assuming either the tweeter just crapped out - there's no sound coming out of it, the L-pad needs replacing, OR hopefully not the case, but the crossover went bad. I do have a analog multimeter, although I don't really know how to use it. The woofers still work fine. I would greatly appreciate any tips or guidance on how to troubleshoot/repair the situation. How do I test the tweeter or L-pad? Thank you in advance!

It may very well be a blown diaphragm--a not uncommon problem with those tweeters. They are easy to replace, and you can get them directly from Aguilar for $40. (I think it actually might be the standard Fostex 1" phenolic, which can be found cheaper, although I'm not entirely sure it is exactly the same.)

Thanks for the info. Ideally to test the tweeter, I would hook up the multimeter to the connecting wires, correct? I don't know if I just don't know how to use my meter, or if it's broke, but I've tried that with no response. Do you know what setting I would want to have the meter at to read the load? Thanks!

That's okay, your bass probably sounds all the better for it, now.

Yup - just get a replacement. In the meantime, consider the sound without tweeter - you may find that you end up running the new tweeter lower than you did before. It's certainly not the most important part of a bass cab.

That's hilarious, I do like the sound of it now, good call. I was just getting ready to sell it, so of course the tweeter stops working... Thanks for all the input, I'm going to try and test it out here quick just to make sure it is blown before I make the purchase.

After that, are any of you interested in this 8 ohm cab with a new diaphram? I'll be posting it soon..

Thanks again!
