Help Requested

I am looking for a small amp, either a combo or a mini stack for practice, recording and small venue gigs. Initially, I was looking at a Roland Cube Bass 100 but the kind of tone I want is more "old school" and less "hi fi". I haven't eliminated the Roland yet but I am also looking at the GK MB112 or 115 and the Ampeg Micro VR200. I'm not very familiar with the GK tone...can someone with experience tell me if it will give me the old school tone that I'm looking for? FYI: My bass is a Godin Shifter 4 passive.

*Old School* can mean anything- can you give an example of the tone you're wanting?
I use a GK MB2 500 & had a 700RB-II before that; I'd call GK's tone *modern/hi-fi but w/a distinctive grind/overdrive flavor to it*
Ampeg(I've owned an SVT-3pro & BA210sp)is more of my def of *Old School*(thumpy/less-defined but thick & fat- all subjective terms, admittedly).

Well, I'll give you some examples of the kind of tone I'm looking for. JPJ/Zeppelin, Ray Lamontagne's bass player(whoever he is), Dave Jacques. Hope that gives you a bit of a picture.

I'm seriously beginning to lean towards the Ampeg Micro VR even though I haven't been able to try one yet. Anyone own one?

I think the Ampeg Micro VR is the way to go, just based off reviews and clips I've seen and heard.

I agree. I wanted a small lightweight combo but in my price range and tone requirements, I think I'd be better served with the Micro VR. It's a little more expensive than the combos I've been looking at but still within my means.
