Help w/15" Speaker Selection

Sign in to disble this ad
After many years of trying, I have finally been able to switch back from lead guitar to my main interest/enjoyment of bass guitar. I purchased a new Eden WT400 a few years ago on a closeout deal and have played a few fill-in type gigs with it and borrowed or rented speakers cabs. I have an empty Pacific Woodworks 1x15 cabinet that I would like to use. My band doesn't play all that loudly, so massive volume is not an issue. Based on previous threads and the search function, it appears that a Kappalite or a Basslite would be leading contenders. The cabinet has 17x19x20 speaker "space" with a 3x17 port area along the bottom. I guess my preference would be a 4 ohm speaker (also a better price in this case), but is the 8 ohm Kappalite a better choice? Other ideas? Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Get your Kappalite 3015 from Beachaudio - free shipping and ~140 bucks. Worth every penny.

The size of the box suggests that the kappalite will behave the best. You need to know how deep the port is to know what it's tuned to but the kappalite is far more friendly to a range of tunings than the basslite.

+1.

The kappalite is also high in SPL. More sound coming out per watt going in. No need for the "4ohm/more power" thing. If the WT400 is laid out like the 800, bridge into it and it'll likely be all you ever need.
