HELP!! What IS a fair price?

Sign in to disble this ad
OK, a little background:

I wouldn't be selling any of these instruments, but I have a new, and potentially life changing debt... Although it won't KILL me, I may ultimately have to sell my house... THAT is definitely bad!!!

I haven't had a steady gig of any kind in several years. Plus, I'm not eligible for any kind of government aid, ie unemployment, or health insurance... I'm speaking of a "make-or-break point" in my life (at 55 yrs of age). Honestly, something has to "give" soon!!

That said, what would be a fair price for these:

'07 Fender '62 RI Tele Custom (Lake Placid Blue, like new, minty)
"08 Gibson ES-330L (like new, minty)
'10 Fender Squire CV (Sonic Blue, like new, minty)
'81 Carvin 1x15 bass cab
'72 Traynor YC-610 cab

Selling these instruments leaves me with basic, but decent tools to ply my trade as bassist, guitarist, and/or recordist with, if and when the opportunity arises...

I'm definitely not destitute, and may be able to borrow against my home to pay this debt... But it weighs heavily, and the best way, as I see it, would be to sell these instruments first, which will buy me some time to come up with the balance...

So, your help is greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry that you're in that position.

Honestly, I'd look at closed auctions on eBay for starters. You could always search other sites like the Harmony Central Classifieds (if that site still has them), and perhaps chain store sites like Musicgoround.com and Guitarcenter.com.

Doing a google search for "craigslist: (insert name if item)" can provide some info.

The market is weird so you may do well one week and poorly the next.

There's another site called www.prepal.com that supposedly tracks auction results, but I'm not sure that those prices are really accurate.

Good luck!

Thanks

...for the reply, Billy.

I thought I'd done my research, which is why I'm asking here... Best guess is I'm asking too much, and/or there's not enough interest... There is no "fast" answer, except maybe giving stuff away...

I think winter is a difficult time of year to sell gear...it's cold out (well, it's really cold here in Chicago), people are recovering from Christmas spending, the economy isn't the best, plus folks probably don't have their income tax refunds yet and there aren't any pending summer gigs that they're urgently gearing up for, etc.

Are you trying to sell online, through Craigslist or ???

fleabay mostly... CL too, but seemingly ineffective...

Until this year, possibly last, it seemed a good time to sell... right after Christmas. From about Thanksgiving through tax time has been decent. Lately though, it's prospective buyers bidding, then retracting bids... ebay is a miserable place to sell things anymore... It's turned into a retail "I want it now" nightmare...

I'm happy to say the Tele Custom and Squire CV Precision have sold. That should keep the bills paid for a couple months anyway...
