Here is my New V4 cabinet

The tolex is a bit rough and I may replace it. I like the grill cloth though, it matches my head. The speakers according to the ser# 2857632 are Rolas made in 76' and are in bad shape. you can see from one of the pics. 3 of them have rips in them. Doesn't matter though because I believe I'm putting Eminence Basslite S2012's in there. I was palying it and sounded great but then started popping, could this be bad wiring? I never had this problem when I had my head plugged into my bassman cab. Is it a pain in the butt to replace the tolex? How much do I need? Anyway Just thought you might want to see my new baby.

You can do what I did and repair the tears front and back with rubber cement and a flexible material like dryer sheets. I used index paper and it worked but I think cloth-like materials might be better.

Oh, and I do not reccoment trying this at home.

Nice, sucks the speakers are crap but you can't beat it for the price though. Good luck with the re-conditioning. Should sound great with those eminences.

Looks like the grille is pretty decent shape, you could have one nice sounding and looking cab if you put the time into it.

Yeah corey, I was hoping for better with the speakers but oh well! The cainet itself is solid though. I think I am going to retolex myself, I have worked with contact cement befor doing countertops so I have no fear there, and as far as changing out the speakers, That seems easy enough as well. Even with all that work it will still be cheaper than getting one made at fliptops. does anyone know what the two metal things on the side are for (the two in the middle)? they look like something screwed into them.

For attaching the cart. If you want, I have a cover for one of these cabs. I ordered it from fliptops hoping it would fit my B40 cab since the dimensions are pretty close but it's definitely too big.

I loaded the Eminence Basslite S2012's in my V4 cab. It provides a nice fat, yet tight punchy tone. These speakers are priced fairly as well, and .. .. they're made for bass. I dig 'em, I think you will too. Cab looks fantastic! Congrats, I think they sound fantastic for bass.

Thanks Corey, but I don't think I have a need for a cover. Dusty, I already ordered the S2012s today, I can't wait. I really think I shoud retolex first though. How many yds will I need?

many of the 70's ampeg cab had removable carts for the speakers. Except the svt and big v-4B which had the tilt back setup

most tolex comes 54" wide, so 3 yards would easily do it. i cut one long piece to do all of the sides with the seam on one side of the bottom (just like the original way ampeg did it), and then one square piece for the back, but you'll have quite a bit left over if you do it that way.

Well then maybe I will just have to retolex my V-4B head while I'm at it then
