High Power Combos

I have been trying out different combos around 500watts. I would really like to find one so I would only have to carry one cab to some of my gigs and still have some muscle. Like outside weddings and such, but I find most of them seem to start clipping bad when you start cranking them. I've rented a Peavey tour TNT and MB212 both of them couldn't keep up outside at a wedding with about 200 people. I have not tried the T.C. Electronic BG500 yet. I am still a big dummy when it comes to this stuff. But it seems to me some of these combos are not what they say they are. If I have to add other cabs I might as well use my regular rig. Any suggestions, I never know what kind of P.A. is being use most of the time tell I get there. Any Ideas out there for a good combo that has some power to it in case I need it.

I would recommend a solid cab + head instead. As a gigging musician, it just makes sense in case something goes wrong. The convenience of a combo has kind of lost it's luster with the invention of micro heads, imo.

+1...that's what I like about my M6....I usually use it in a cab/head config. but I have the combo if I need it when a 6x10 is too much.

ya, the problem with these high power combos with neos that claim super power handling is that they don't defeat the laws of physics, and even though they claim to take a certain amount of wattage, they really can't be turned up to those levels in real world usage. they will take a pretty good smackdown, but it's always below what they tell you it is. big pet peeve of mine.

I've used my PJB BG800 Roadcase at numerous outside festivals and it's produced plenty of sound for those gigs. It's 750 watts with 12 PJB 5in. Neos and is the loudest and cleanest combo I've ever heard.

It has less to do with the wattage output of the head, or the wattage rating of the speaker(s), than it does the displacement limitation of the cab itself.

Typically combos have cabs that are too small for the driver(s) so the power handling isn't all that great to begin with.

You are better off with more speakers than higher wattage heads, so look for a good sounding combo that allows for an extension cab. Then you can bring only the combo for small gigs and the extension cab with it for larger ones.
