Question Hmmm, maybe I've been over-thinking

so a couple weeks ago, I just wasn't diggin' the tone of my Wizzy 10 cab with my Rob Allen mouse. I got lots of nice suggestions and have been lurking on the classifieds and a couple things have popped up but I haven't been able to pull the trigger.

Then last weekend, I went to my usual Jazz jam. We play at the guitar players house and as also plays bass, one of the benefits is he has a Hardke Kickback (the K fell off so we jokingly call it the "ickback") so if I'm lazy, I don't have to bring a rig. Anyway, its nothing special, just a simple 120 watt generic solid state amp with a 12 inch woofer, no tweeter. Well, I didn't really dig the tone so much but the bandmates LOVED it. Lots of puffy mushy tones but for standards, it really worked.

Soooo. Now I'm thinking that maybe I don't really need the high-fi groovey crossovered, tweetered, mid enhanced boutique cab. Now I'm thinking a simple 12. I see that Eden makes one now. Anyone with experience with those?

Discuss, please.

One of the best things you can do when you start feeling like you need a new amp is to totally jack up the EQ on your current amp. If you liek how it sounds, write down the settings, and then start twiddling knobs. I did this with my old Carvin R1000. I found a sweet spot and no longer needed a new amp. If you can't find something you like within a month, then consider going for a new amp.

Hey Mark, I have my Epi T112 and GK MB2-500 rig. I use it for my electro'coustic gig exclusively. It's an old school heavy 1x12 but darn it sounds good to me. Mostly I'm using my Tacoma with a K&K pickup installed - that or the Graphtech Piezo equipped Barker or piezo Godin. I get flavor's of woody with all three.

The other cab is the fEarful 12/6 and that sounds just great with whatever. Only downside for me is the size. It makes the rock dates I do these days only. The Epi has the advantage of disappearing...

You should give the Epi a listen. Maybe we're getting close to a GTG ?
