Question Home speakers as amp/pa?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone. I was at the local Goodwill today and I stumbled upon 4 Sansui Sp3200 speakers. I believe they are vintage, and they were only 70 dollars for four 100-watt speakers. The thing is.. these are for a home speaker system. Would it work if I used a raw wire to 1/4 cable to use these as instrument amplifiers..?

Home stereo speakers are not built for the demands of "live" music, especially bass guitar.

They may sound OK at LOW volumes, but will be damaged at higher levels.

Alright, I figured this was probably the case. I'll pass on buying them then.

All four together you might be able to push 50 to 75 watts of bass guitar into. They were decent stereo speakers, just use them as they were intended.

it will 'work' but they might not compete with the volume of a live drumset. make sure you match the impedance correctly.

Thanks a lot everyone. I think I'm going to pass on these. I think it may end up being more trouble than it's worth. =p

Offer them $50 and put them in your garage.
