Cool Honest opinion - what cab is really good?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all fellow bass players!
It is truly astonishing that I just can't seem to find the right cab.
I have owned just about every one known to man.
How are the comparisons among Avatar 210 neo - Berg HS210 ,
and Acme Low B 2
I already have Epifani & Eden 410's
I'm looking for a good 210 for smaller gigs.
Whadda ya think?

sounds like you need to go to 12's or 15's.

Bag End's are nice. My Yamaha BBT210 is surprisingly good. I tried this out a couple months ago and it's easily the loudest/deepest 210 I've ever played through:

I was pretty floored, but they're hard to come by.

Email Barefaced, and have your ear talked off until one of them is the winner.

If your preference is to stick with a 2x10 cab, I have read really good things about the Genz Benz Uber 2x10.

If, however, you want a cab that weighs less (it's 34 pounds)and puts out more volume and has better frequency response than any 2x10, *and* is a 4-ohm cab to draw out more power from your amp, I HIGHLY recommend that you look into the Audiokinesis Thunderchild cab. Here is a link to the TB thread for that cab:

I would never gig with a single 2x10 no matter how small the gig was. stacking a pair vertically takes up the same stage area and gets the amp up where you can get to it easily.

Smaller gigs playing what kind of music? It makes a big difference. For example a Schroeder 210 would be loud and cutting, good for being heard in a rock mix; but the Thunderchild would have better frequency response and tone, good for jazz and less-rambunctious mixes.

if you can find a used peavey pro 210 you might wanna try it.. i have the 410 myself and it still impresses me in every way. Power handling, low end tightness, well rounded but hi-fi at the same time. makes one heck of a keyboard amp too. built like a tank, probabbly similar to the eden, might be too big and bulky for what u have in mind tho. again the power handling! Ive pushed mine consistently to the 700 watts RMS and it will tickle the back of your eyeballs!. All drivers are perfect still.
I guess it also depends on what you play, of course.

+1...
All manufacturers 210 cabinets will only go so far.
I'm gigging with two Avatar Neo 210's as a vertical 410 powered with a GK MB2-500.
I've found I can run one cab for rehearsals/small, LOW volume
jobs/slightly moderate volume gigs with FOH using the 210 as a on stage monitor.
But honestly there's no substitute for adding that second 210.

As to the Avatars compaired to other manufacturers 210's...
Some manufacturers offer better horns and crossovers than what comes in Avatars, (as to the speakers offered, almost all bass cabinet manufacturers speakers are pretty much from Eminence...this includes Accugrove, Ampeg, Avatar, Bergantino, Epi, Fender, ect., ect., ect.)
You'll pay 2 times to 2-1/2 times the price of the Avatar to get those improvements in the horn and crossover.......Only your ears can decide if it's worth it.

Cab Calloway maybe?

But in all seriousness, Designs from Bill Fitzmaurice and the Fearful line up from TalkBass's own greenboy are second to none!

Cool 210 cab

Thanks for all the input on this. I will check into some of the brands that were recommended.
And to clear some issues, I play in a jam band, mostly Grateful Dead, which is when I use my Eden D410XLT
With side projects and acoustic gigs, I don't need to lug a 100 pound cab around.
I appreciate the help!
