Hooking up two cabs help

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok guys i will try to keep this simple and brief, been playing about 4 years and got my first festival style outdoor gig (local 2000 capacity thing).

I currently use a Little Mark III 600 watt bass head with either the Markbass Standard 104HF 800 watt cabinet or the Markbass Traveler 102P 400 watt cabinet depending on venue size, however for this gig i want to hook my bass head to both cabinets.

I thought this would be easy but reading online it sounds complicated and i read things about heads erupting into flames when hooked up to cabs the wrong way, maybe for some cool but expensive for me!

I have come to the conclusion that i can probably connect the cabinets in parallel with two speaker cables from the head? However as you can see i only have one output as you can see by this picture, unless the class 2 wiring output (no clue what that means) can be used...

Please help im sure there is a simple answer to someone who actually understands the technology side of being a musician!!

You have 2 outputs. One is a Speakon and the other is a standard 1/4" (where it says Class 2 wiring). I have the same amp and have the appropriate cables to hook up 2 cabs. You can also daisy chain from one cab to the other. Just be sure both cabs are 8ohm cabs.

Just daisy chain the two cabs together. Speaker out on the amp to the first cab then out the first cab to the second cab. This is how I set mine up and have never had a problem.

Wow three replies already what an awesome website!

Lol so the whole time im playing i should have been using the class 2 wiring output?

And whats the difference gonna be in terms of sound/power/volumne if i go with the daisychain (series?) setup and not paralell (2 speaker outs from head)?

Thanks so much for the help

No difference................

Daisy chaining is not series, it is parallel - same as hooking both cabs to the head.

These two options will get you the SAME result:

1. One cable from head to cab#1, then another cable from cab#1 to cab#2.

2. One cable from head to cab#1, another cable from head to cab#2.

The result for both is a parallel connection making a 4 ohm connection using two 8 ohm cabs. It is a common misconception that "cab to cab" cabling automatically gets you a serial connection.

As mentioned, you need to make sure both cabs are 8 ohms. If they are different (both 4 ohm for example) you can have a major problem if you connect both cabs.

Class 2 wiring is just the wiring standard. They are both speaker outputs...one is speakon and one is 1/4"

I didn't realize that was a combo-jack. Always thought it was straight Speakon. In any case I have a Speakon to Speakon cable for one cab and a 1/4" to Speakon for my second cab.
