we should post pictures of bands with the estimated size of bass
rig required:
A 1X10 Combo?.
Guess I am going to need an SVT 810 rig or two.

| | | That's a good one Bassmec.
Maybe we should define a gig/rig ratio
The higher the ratio the worst the outcome.
A value of 1 is good
A value lower then 1 starts to become overkill.....
rigs:
10" 100watt combo = 1
210" 200watt combo = 2
......inbetween rigs.....
2x810 + 1000watt2 amp = 10
gigs:
The Who coverband = 10
....inbetween gigs...
Carpenters meat-n-potatoes bass support = 1
e.g.
The Who coverband / 10"100 watt combo = 10 = bad
The Who coverband / 2x810 + 1000watts amp = 1 = perfect
Carpenters / 2x810 + 1000watts amp = 0.1 = overkill

With that being said, I play thru a Carvin BX600 and Ganz Benz 212 neo cab...plenty of quality sound and volume. I have played with and without PA support depending upon the venue...doesn't really matter to me (as long as I get heard in the mix).

Unfortunately they obviate the hearing of any nuance of tone. OTOH, I can use any rig, good or lousy and it always sounds the same. |

I use Etymotic brand, they cut a little more in the high end than truly flat but pretty good for the money.

Also, my amp is part of my instrument. The sound of my bass by itself is not the sound of the whole instrument. |

I use ear plugs as a matter of course for metal stuff I play, especially the doom stuff.
However, I get really pissed off if the drummer of my folk/rock band plays so loud that I feel like using them.
It's all about what volume level is appropriate for the musical context I'm in. Expecting that I'll need ear plugs at a doom show is pretty reasonable. I shouldn't have to bring them for folk/rock gigs though. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
