How careful are you with your tweeter?

I use a Markbass LMT800 and a Traveler 151p cab, and I guess I get a little bit of tweeter anxiety. I generally like to play with my tweeter cut (on the cab) at 0dB for a more crisp, defined tone with my Jazz.

Recently, though, and especially since I got a used Boss ME-6B off the classifieds here on TB, I've been really nervous about blowing out my tweeter. Sometimes when I get a really sweet fuzz effect or a crisp, clean chorus going, it feels like that little piezo tweeter is putting out an awful lot of sound. I've heard a few horror stories of the tweeter on the Markbass Traveler cabs going bad, and it kinda freaks me out.

Right now I keep it at about -5dB unless I'm gonna be playing completely clean all night. I don't like the tone quite as much. It's not horrible; it's still my favorite setup ever. Am I being stupid/paranoid? Do you ever worry about your tweeter blowing when you play with a bright tone?

(Also, would I be stupid to play guitar through this setup at low volumes without turning off the tweeter entirely? What's your experience?)

Your not paranoid...........

Lots of high end content and distortion kills tweeters.

Beg to differ. IME/IMO crappy tweeters die young - don't mourn - its inevitable. Just get a better tweeter and an xover to match the cab and rock on wit your bad self.

My $0.02.

Dont worry so much about killing.Just dont go over board on the highs & it should be cool.
If it explodes just find a better one like Motorola which are hard to find.
Also maybe a resistor some kind of protection for ultra sonic freq.
