After browsing through 14 of the actual 24 pages with amp threads, I thought it safe to conclude that this practical question hadn't been asked before.
My 44.6 lbs.(20.23 kg) Fender Bassman TV Twelve has one "dog bone" handle on top, whitch gives it a nice look, but makes it difficult to carry with two persons. I don't like the idea of adding casters, because those invite helpful people to roll the amp over whatever cobbly and lengthy road that lies ahead, thus ruining whatever delicate electronic connections and fragile tubes (it's a hybrid) that are inside. I've seen a band once, where they had put a strap around a combo, and that strap had two handles, which were located at both sides of the amp.
However much I google for "amp straps", such things don't seem to be available on the consumer market. Has anyone used this carrying system, and, if it isn't available ready-made, how do I assemble one?

Available at amazon.com
Or you could just pick it up by the bottom, one person on each end. |

| | | Or you could hire those two movers. If they can lift that armorie than can certainly lift your puny little amp.

| | | | I usually never trust those dog bone type of handles to take the weight when lifting any size amp. They are obviously designed to take the load but when they get old you can never tell if they are going to fail. The handles with the steel strap in them are better but I still don't like to rely on them.
With two people, I lift the amp from the bottom of the cabinet.

Im ready to bet this thing is made of shiny cardboard...
And regarding the amp, what about carrying it on your own? 44lbs is not that much... My walkabout is 50 and i take it everywhere on my own!

| | | Well, you could spend $10 and add on a set of handles to the sides of your cab if you don't mind adding things to it. I added a set of the spring kind (stays down until you grab them, lifts out from the side of the amp, metal with rubber handle grip) to my combo amp because it has the recessed kind of handles and those are hard for me to grab. I didn't mind the extra holes in the side, figure if I sell it I'll leave the handles on anyway .
Otherwise, a dolly is about your best bet safety wise.

A: Two, one-armed assistants? <sometimes I kill myself!>
Is there some phobia against adding the spring-loaded handles? I think it's a non-issue - since if you can't get the rig to a venue, then it's of little value.
Might as well add the handles and be done with it, in my opinion.
I'm old and I'm humping around with a combo that gets very near 75 US pounds! Add another 115 cab that's over 50 lbs and I don't have any roadie/loadies to do it for me and I can still make it.
Every try to roll a cab through a cow pasture? I didn't think so.

My B15 weighs at least that, and I carry it by the single handle on my own when necessary, roll it around when possible. Likewise for my old V4 - it was 65 lbs with a single top handle (albeit not as awkward since it was just a head). That one I ended up putting in a road case so it had two handles but then it weighed in at 85 lbs. |
