Viewing the schematics for both amps would likely reveal the differences:

Patience Grasshopper

BassmanPaul or one of TB's other tube techs may notice this thread soon and when they do the schematics will be waiting for them.

it'd be a pretty huge mod job and not worth the effort.

The bassman 135 is not a marshall, however you might try changing the fender from ultra linear by discarding the 43% taps and following the bassman 100 schematic to get the amp
to breakup earlier like the marshall which is also not wired with a 5 wire primary UL OP tranny.
But as mammoth says why not just sell the fender and buy a marshall.

You would have to come up with some more money after selling amp to buy the Marshall. It's doubtful you'll find someone insane enough to make the trade. Both are good amps, but I think most people who are looking to sell or buy them have an idea what they're worth. Who would trade a Porsche for a VW?

It will probably be cheaper to sell your "VW" (Bassman) and save up for the "Porsche" than it will to have somebody try to transform the VW into a Porsche. It will certainly be cheaper and easier just to buy one than to go to electronics school and spend a few years in the field working so that one day you can do it yourself.

And I for one, agree fully. Part of the Mojo of a tube amp is how the transformers are wound.

The biggie though, is that you'll need to swap out the 6L6GCs for EL34s. That entails a significant increase in heater current 3.6A goes to 6-6.4A depending on what brand you select. This will have a huge impact on the life of your power transformer.
