How do I get a deal on a Markbass F500?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

So, you can only buy one of these through Guitar Center or Musician's Friend. And once in a great while, there's talk of a sale. I'm not in a huge hurry - how do I find a deal on one of these?

Thanks - Mark

you wait for a sale. next one due up is probably black friday. get one then and it'll be 15-20% off, assuming they have a sale, and they always do.

Uh...you wait for a sale?

If those are the only two places you can buy a new unit, you don't have much choice.

Well thanks for THAT nugget! Based on your experience, what are the odds? Really "always"?

Also, I live in New York State. If I buy it at GC, I will pay tax. Which is nearly 10% right there. Not so with Musician's Friend I believe, or am I wrong about that? Does MF also run such sales? So I have to factor that in as well. Advice?

Thanks so much - Mark

I'd look in the used section too. There're none now but the gc used online section has a couple SD800s for 549

They will usually honor coupons on those things as well so you could probably get that down to 450ish.

And Oregon doesn't have a sales tax, so...

They do charge sales tax on orders to Washington though.

Stores don't charge tax, they must collect it for the state they're in. Sometimes you can dodge sales tax if a store will write it up as shipped out of state. I live in Mississippi, 60 miles from Mobile Alabama Guitar Center, but the last time I asked about that, GC told me that they could do it if there wasn't a store in the state to be shipped to. Otherwise, they have to collect it.

BTW, I've bought two Markbass amps from GC, and received a discount without there being any special sale on.

The GCs around here have sales every holiday, including "Who Cut the Cheese Day." Also, contrary to what "they" say, GC will still cut deals.

I asked!
Seriously though, first time was about a week after Black Friday sale ended. I made an offer and the store mgr. told me their computer system would reject it but he would try. Lo and behold it accepted my price which was significantly lower than the sale price. More recently, I made an offer on a LMTube 800 and they accepted it as well. No special sale going on.

esp if you're a "working pro"
Tip: build rapport with a salesperson, and possibly a manager. ASK for that person every time, and the more we have a certain customer come ONLY to us....well, I'll let you figure out the rest.

Black friday will most likely have some sort of a 15% off coupon I'm sure. we always have one of those coupons for the big sale weekends, and Black Friday is the largest day in the entire year for us....so.....it's safe to say there will be some deals.

I had an F500 in my store used for like $300 man.

Find a salesman you like that's knowledgeable, helpful, and treats you with respect. Make him your go to guy at that store. Try to make sure he's in when you go to make a major purchase, and if not, let 'em know you've been working with him. At least he should get half credit/commission for that sale. There's nothing as deflating as to work with someone for weeks or months, then they come in and buy from someone else.

Musician's Friend runs those 15% off sales multiple times each year. I purchased an F500 that way and with no tax and free shipping, it was a stupid good deal.

Yes, Thanksgiving weekend will most likely be the next one.

Now we're talking. For the record, I will not buy one of these until there is a sale!
