i keep finding that the ampeg svt4 can run at 2,4,and 8 ohms, but i dont know how to run it at 8 to match my markbass 8 ohm cab. 4 ohms pushes the amp twice as hard as it should. thanks.

Step 1: Plug in Markbass cab.
Step 2: Turn on amp and play.

EXACTLY. The amp "pushes" the cabs, not the other way around

That means it is compatible with 2, 4 or 8 ohm loads.

I'm taking from the tone of the answers that the SVT-4 is a solid state beast?

Naruhodo.

Up to 4 of 8 ohm cabs could be run off the amp, not that I'd recommend that! Then it would really be working.

If its rated for a 2 ohm load, no harder than it is designed too
