how do you guys like JJ 12AU7 tubes?

Going to order 4 of them for a project, how do you like them on bass? I'm cascading them for 8 gain stages in a preamp... I'm looking to get some good girthy grind with strong bass and low mids. I'm pretty happy with the JJ 12AX7s, but the project i'm building calls for 12AU7s and I don't want to do extensive circuit mods to use 12AX7s (it's a low voltage preamp).

Thanks dude! Me too, I really like their AX7s in my tube amp, nice tone for bass.

I've had pretty good luck with them too. Balanced sounding, pretty nicely suited for bass. I did have a 12AX7 that was pretty microphonic from them once though.

8 gain stages? thats gonna be an awful lot of gain even with 12au7s

the jj's are okay i like jan ones though ;D

The ones I've had all function. The last time I needed to buy one, I got an EH instead, as it was cheaper. I seem to recall it being a little less noisy in the same amp that a JJ was in. Dealing w/Bob soured me on JJs which isn't the fault of the tubes themselves I know. If I needed another, I'd get the EH unless the JJ was significantly cheaper, and not from Bob.

I'm not a connoisseur of tubes, have few favorites of the current ones. My ears like the ancient ones better for most applications.
