| | | | How does my head work? What are all these in/outputs for? I happen to be completely new to the world of stacks and my new purchase has an overwhelmingly large amount of things that I don't know about it. I know enough to be able to use it at a basic level, but not much else. Can someone help me?

The general idea for that sort of thing is rackmount effects, noise suppressor, compressors etc. Sometimes running through your effects loop can be better or worse than just putting a pedal on the floor. But if you wanna try it and see for yourself, you would plug a pedal/rackmount unit in as follows
FX loop send> pedal in (where you'd normally plug your guitar)
pedal out> FX loop return
anything else I can help you with? |

Out > In = Loop.

+1 to "dude RTFM!"

Then you run a cable from the output of the effect to the "effects return" jack. Turn on the effect and adjust its level with the amp on until it sounds just bitchen, but no more.
