Question How to get the sealed Ampeg HE tone without the weight?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hoping to get some opinions on cabs that can get that thick Ampeg HE tone without the weight. I just love that thick, punchy, warm tone with controlled lows...... but don't want to push around a 90 pound gorilla..... if I can avoid it.

Tx, Vin

Just a cab or a combo? Because really, its the amp+cab that makes a sound.

they're a little smaller in box size and maybe a little lighter duty than the 410he, but if you boost the lows on your amp a little, the svt 210av's really sound like a smaller svt 810. they're maybe 25 lbs apiece. other than that, i don't know. almost all neo 410's are ported, and they'll be the only cabs appreciably lighter than your ceramic loaded 410's.

True, but no matter what head you use the 410HE has a particular sound which is quite different to most other cabs.

I noticed that the new SWR Marcus Miller cab is sealed... and about 50lbs. 210AV look fantastic but I'd need to import it to Australia myself..... without hearing it. They're not even available here yet.

Very difficult for me to try cabs - The nearest well stocked bass shop is about an hours drive away. There's a secondhand music shop (an hour away) selling both a 410HE and 4x8HE - They look interesting - higher efficiency (louder) and lighter. I'm very tempted to make a trip.

Pffft, 1 hr away. Try 3 hrs and slim pickings. Christchurch (5hrs) is in ruins so next closest is on the other island. Almost everything I buy is sight unseen.
