I have been using an Ashdown ABM 500 and I have a Hartke HA500 as a backup..
Can I get the bass sound of APC using a 2x10 & 115 combination?
or with a 2x12?
thanks guys.

For starters, the audio track on that video is from a studio recording. So you really have no way of knowing what amp, what processing, and what mixing effects were used in the studio. So where do you start? You can just keep experimenting till you either find that tone or get tired of trying.

And, really, once you get the perfect tone, you'll end up losing it the minute you move your equipment to a different room. The acoustics of each room are different, and they wreak havoc with bass.

Ampeg seems to help with that tone alot. That and a pbass, tuned in C# played with a pick. Most people say you shouldnt mix cab sizes because of phasing issues. Im no tech but i believe the guys who say it. you could get that tone with just a 210 or a 115 its more about the preamp.

this also depends on whether your trying to buy a new cab or make what you have work. If you are really set on that tone i suggest getting an svt7pro and plugging it into either an 810 or a GK 412... I get that tone with the ultra low button engaged. Im sure similar amps can do the same thing tho.

I already have a 210, so I was thinking to get a 115. But now, I'm thinking to sell the 210 and get a 212 instead.
I really like the sound of that bass. Definitely it's played with a pick and it has some sort of tube sound.

I have pulled a sound similar to that through a Genz 1200 and Genz 610. Beautiful.

It's a studio recording. If you want to duplicate that sound book some studio time with the same engineer who mixed the track.

Getting specific tones isn't a matter of the size speakers you use. The only thing definitive about that tone is that he's running round wounds. Beyond that, unless revealed in the liner notes, it's all guesswork.

Sure you can. I have gotten really close to having a similar tone I liked someone else had. You just have to try to use what they use live. Its not going to be exact obviously but you can get close.

Why would they use a certain sound in the studio but not live?? I would think they would want them similar at least. Ive seen APC live and the bass is very similar live as it is in the recordings.

Likely a mix of a miked SVT rig & DI...which is prolly why the Genz rig was able to get in the ballpark. You'll want to be able to mix a phat tube sound with a clean direct sound. You'll also want to employ a P-bass with rounds.

To me, sounds like a jazz bass with lowish action, played with a pick near or in front of the neck pickup (to get that click) with the tone rolled off slighty.
