How to hook up a TV to a 212

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I'm wondering how you all would hook 2 212 bass cabs up to a TV? I cant seem to figure it out on my own.

so heres what I'm working with. I could power them with a Markbass LMII if needed. Or a crown Macrotech 2402 if really needed.

There should be a red/white RCA audio out on the back of the TV. Go to radio shack and get a RCA to dual mono 1/4" connector and run it into the two inputs on the Crown power amp.

OMG!!! I've gotta try this with my 55" 3D LED!!!

Can you hook it into an actual surround system and use the bass speakers in the place of the subs?

I used to set my old iBook G3 (not affraid of magnets) on my Acoustic B20 and run iTunes through it, never seemed to hurt it going full range at low volumes.

lol i know right! I got the Idea from using an old fender amp as a laptop speaker system. this is just that much more fun!
This thread should be changed to a Post your bass suround sound thread. Or something along those lines. You know what I'm thinking, I'm just having trouble verbalizing it.

Surely you'd HAVE to go all tube for this!

Some newer TVs do not have analog audio outs, just digital, for surround sound systems. I'm looking for a new TV ATM and noticed this "feature" on several of the units I was considering. 1/8" stereo jacks for headphones on some of them, but using that disables the TVs built in speakers so I'd always have to use the external system. The setup I have is fairly power hungry, I wouldn't want it on all the time.

I had been using an 800 watt amp, 2 Bose 802s, plus a Bag End Infra powered 18" as a sub. Not surround sound, but it was stuff I already owned and sounds pretty good.

I used to run this old tube am/fm receiver & tape deck through a pair of old Marshall 1516 1x15 cabs. MASSIVE sound!

Why would anyone want to do this? The sound from a TV is full-range and an instrument amp is limited and contoured, especially a bass amp. There's no reason an instrument amp would need to pass 20Hz-20KHz.

I mean, I've done things like this but that was a long time ago, before I knew what really great sound was.

He wants to do it. Maybe he will like the result. Maybe not. He can try it. Lots of people here like things (type of amp, # of strings, etc) that others disapprove of.

I know I did it because I had a slammin PA system that was gathering dust. Average modern TV speaker sound is about as full range as the old tin can telephone. Don't know how it will work out for OP, but I'll take my 8Hz-16KHz over the tinny screeching that comes out of my TV speakers.

I see you point 1958 bassman, But keep in mind that I'm a poor college kid. I have to use what I have.

And I just love doing things like this Who doesn't like GK surround sound? I can't tell you how long I've used an old fender amp as an Ipod dock..
