How is "hot" defined??

Sign in to disble this ad
Is "hotness" an increase in mids??? I'm just curious, because I know what hotness SOUNDS like, but I don't know what it actually is.

OR, is it when the tubes start to grind and give it that gritty rock-type of tone???

I thought hot was just loud, or high output.

Never heard of a rig being described as sounding hot.

As stated above.............HOT - refers to output signal strength.

Option B - ask Paris Hilton

paris doesn't say "that's hot" anymore. now her saying is "that's huge." i think her saying should be "that's about all for my 15 minutes of fame," but somehow or another she keeps it going. go figure.

Paris Hilton is the antithesis of hot.

Anyway, so, basically, it's just a gain increase???

Yeah, like hot pickups, they're just higher output pickups. You also might here something is "hot" in the mix, just means it's too loud.

"Hot" could mean a whole bunch a things. Unless you use in the context of a confusing sentence you read it in/heard someone repeat, you could have a really really meaningless thread that will go on for days and days.

A hot pickup has more output. That means that it's got more windings, which means it has higher treble response.

Yeah, hot pups means more signal to the preamp. Hot preamp signal means more signal to the powerstage. In general, hot= a high signal, (amplitude).

Hot refers to the good looking chick who digs the bassist in the band. Any other gear that's hot means stolen...

Actually more windings will give a hotter signal but at the expense of loosing treble response. I've rewound many pickups and have experimented with alot of different winds and wire gauges.
