How many have pulled the Peavey logo off their amp or Bass Cab????

Sign in to disble this ad
This may have been mentioned before, but I thought it is funny that players will play Peavey equipment, but pull the logo off so no one knows they play Peavey. So guess there must be some Peavey players that have not come out of the closet yet
And I guess my second question would be why do you pull the logo off? If you have a good tone/sound who cares what you are playing through

I think Peavey's rep has improved over the last decade or so. It was a hard slog - their old amps and PAs from the early/mid '70s were some of the worst music gear *ever*...

All the Peavey cabs I've bought over the years have been used and had no logo except for my Microbass practice amp. That is still in tact. Doesn't bother me.

I like Peavey. I display both ugly and cool looking Peavey logos with pride. I did go out of my way to yank the logo off my Dr. Bass cab, though.

Only Peavey product I have is a 1x15 cab from the late '70s, but the logo's still on it. Wouldn't think of removing it.

I can tell you that a lot of old Traynor gear is missing logos (mostly pulled off by owners .... some when the traynor turned into raynor).
There was a time when owing a Traynor may have caused a bit of shame.
But no MORE!
That has created quite the market for old Traynor logos on EBAY. Have seen some going for close to 100 bucks each.

Actually it was the solid rep of their early p.a. gear that built Peavey into the monster company it still is today. Their amps have been played by many pros since the the 70's as well, and the 80's bass stuff is legendary in the Mark series and several of their robust combo amps. Hartley's company has been making great bang for the buck gear long before the last decade. I know because I've been around a lot of their gear since the 70's and I don't apologize for thinking a lot of it was quite good for the money and has proven itself at the pro level.

It is however quite honest for one to say they prefer other brands of gear, and I respect that. I like a lot of other amp gear made by other companies too; but Peavey is hardly crap based on my own experiences with most of their stuff. I ain't saying everything they made was great , but in general it has a solid reputation of toughness, and a lot of musicians like the tonal performance of a lot of the stuff they have made. Being poorly made has never been a problem with Peavey gear, and such a rumor ain't coming from anyone who has used any of their gear at the pro and semipro level. The list of artists and bands who have used their gear is long, and extends back for decades. Peavey has a solid reputation, and many, many, fans. I'm happy to have played, as well as still own and play through Peavey gear and I leave the logo on. That's my 2 cents worth of opinion.

Guilty. In my defense the logo was broken before I bought the amp.

Really? Because, despite primarily catering to the beginner / amateur market, Peavey has long had a reputation of having solid gear.

I dunno, I did a few hundred gigs on a late 70's Peavey 16 channel powered mixer, don't remember what the speakers were. That board was pretty well bombproof, and sounded fine. Even back then, IMO, Peavey was not well regarded or "status" but all the sound gear I encountered from them was built like a tank.

I pulled the logo off a Crate 410 cab I picked up for 50 bucks. The thing actually doesn't sound bad, got me through a few gigs until I got my new Genz cab.

I had an old TNT 100 that the logo tore a hole in my shirt the first time I unloaded it, as good a reason as any to toss it. I have a pair of 18" PA subs we use in my band that the logos were gone before I ever bought them. Say what ya want, their stuff was damn near indestructable!!! The older cabs were made outta some really solid $#!+ , you could drop 'em down a flight of stairs and still be able to plug 'em in and go!

I never felt any more worthy when playing my SWR, Trace Elliott, GK, Ampeg than playing my Peavey gear. It's what I do with the equipment to get my tone, not what the equipment does for me. I thought about this when I bought my last 2x10 TXF Peavey bass cab (used) and noticed no logo. That's what sparked the idea of this thread.

Thanks for the input so far.

The logo is attached, and it hasn't left the house, yet...
