How many watts and speakers does it take....? Ashdown Electric Blue Funk

This is kind of cool - The Baker Brothers live, the bassist through an Ashdown Electric Blue combo, 180w and 1x15.

Big stage, at least compared to what many of us here play most of the time, and killer groove! Very cool band.

Granted, the PA and monitoring is probably top notch, but still. Put things into perspective somewhat.

Really good band. I don't begrudge anyone who likes to use big rigs and big stage volume, but I've found it completely unnecessary for what I do as well.

15/6/1 and a micro get it done for me whether it's my pop band, my 80's hair metal band, or the fill-in blues and country gigs I do.

Let the PA do the heavy lifting.

Wow, beautiful band! Never heard of them before but the clip you posted made me practically watch the whole Opera House performance (thank god for youtube ) Very tight and tasteful!

I've owned the previous generation Electric Blue back in 2004-05. It had the same ouput, same controls and features, but fuzzy carpet covering and Led Vu meter (looked a bit cheaper that the current one). I was on a student budget back and was looking for a loud enough good value amp to get me through practice and rehearsals. Bought it online new for $350 after reading several reviews and doing comparos. Turned out a great decision! Loved the tone quality and flexibility and the power. It could keep up without a sweat with our insane drummer and 2 loud guitarists. Still remember the tone.. Kinda miss it!

To your point, fully agree PA makes the high power, big investment and mammoth weight unnecessary! For my purpose only rehearsals dictate the power I need, not the gig.

I don't think it is. I didn't see a mic on the cab.

I have the Electric Blue amp with the 210 Deep bottom. That thing is clean and speaks with authority. The 5 band EQ gives you a lot of tone options. I love it!

DI on it is plugged in though. I am pretty sure the speakers in these combos is the weakest link.

Just think...people used to play gigs with 30-50 watt amps in the 60s. How did they survive?

By the 80s I heard people say they needed at least 200 watts to gig (I was using a 75 watt Traynor by then).

Now folks say they need at least 400 watts for bass. At the same time, guitarists are all buying low wattage amps

The biggest difference over the decades seems to be I now have to wear earplugs whether in the audience or on the stage
