It doesn't matter to me at all. I would buy the ugliest amp in the world if it sounded good, didn't weigh a ton and was priced right. I think the sweet sound would make me like the appearance after a while anyway.

I've moved away from cloth grill and carpeted cabs because of cats, not because of their appearance. I still have the cloth-front ampeg svt15e, but when it's in the house, it's faced against a wall to keep from serving as a climbing wall for two of the three cats.

There are no ugly rigs, just ugly bass players...........except for me. I am oh so pretty !

The only thing that drives me crazy is almost everything IS BLACK. I am sick of seeing black.

As far as perception, I play what I like. I am running a Kilo head and a GB Stream head along with a custom 215. Not exactly bass player exotic eye candy. Add a pile of Fenders to that and I am walking poster boy for boring ass bass player.

But I am still pretty !

I'm very ambivalent about the look of the amp; not a big deal at all.

They've never sounded good to me either.

EDIT: Specific amp doesn't matter. I don't want it to devolve into brand bashing.

I am with a few others here.
I could never set a Dewalt boom box on a stage with me. There are to many other amps and cabs to chose from.

LOL. Right. I like the general idea of going bold from a branding perspective, but you are naturally going to get strong opinions on the appearance one way or the other. One reason why black gear is the norm, I reckon.

So, question...is that your bass in your avatar/profile pic?

I think this is just a personal preference matter where yours is the only opinion that counts at the end of the day. Even if every other bass player on the planet had a different perspective, it would change that feeling you have.

How much? About this much.....

I think my Trace has a cool retro vibe now, but when it was new it was ugly retro.

If my SVT were pink with polka dots I'd still use it.

Can't think of many audiences that know one rig from another, so it's not a huge concern for me. It can't look damaged, but I'd never play anything like that anyway.

For me, the looks don't mean much, though I do enjoy pretty gear.

It is odd though, I really don't like the look of Markbass gear, but, I really like my Tubeworks amp. The look of that one doesn't bother me a bit. Both are black and yellow....easily noticed from a distance because of it.
