How much does the power amp change the sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Shuttle 9. I run from effects loop send into a mixer/recorder for headphone practicing. No fx here. Sansamp programmable pedal going into input jack of amp. One setting is nicely overdriven. Sounds great like this.
But when I go to speaker cab almost no distortion. Ampeg 410hlf and 810. Does the power amp clean it up? I can turn up gain but having a hard time getting the same grit tone I have from fx out

Just curious - not looking to add a different power amp or anything like that

Thx

No, the power amp can't clean up your signal. What's happening, I think, is that your headphones are simply much more hi-fi than your speaker cabs, and so are able to produce all the subtle elements of your tone, whereas your speaker cabs simply cannot. So to get a similar result from your speakers, you'll have to add more grit.

Or could it be that you have a Blend function for the effects loop? Maybe this needs to be adjusted so that more of the effected signal reaches the amp?
