How to replace power cord???

Sign in to disble this ad
So I lost the power cord to my Ampeg head (B2RE). It's a three-prong cord. I need to get it replaced before a show on Saturday and want to order it online because I don't have a car handy to get to any stores. Amazon has some universal three-prong plugs:

Does anybody know if any standard three-prong will work, or do I need to find a cord SPECIFICALLY for an ampeg like here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

If that cord fits the socket on the back of your amp, it will work fine. It's the same kind of cord that can be found on a multitude of electronics these days (computers, monitors, TVs...).

I misplaced my OEM power cord for my B2R years ago.

Now I just use whatever fits. I have found the desktop computer cord works in a pinch!

It's a standard IEC plug -- available anywhere and you probably have some in your house -- computer equipment often uses them. They are standardized. I always keep a stock of ultra short ones (6 in and 1 ft) from Hosa for replacing on my racked gear to tidy up the rack wiring.

They also have them at any home depot, radio shack, or computer store. Since it's for an amp, get a heavy gauge one if you can. The amazon one will work, but you can easily get one locally (or off something in your house).

Look for a cable with 16 gauge conductors. While some computer cables can be adequate a power amp needs a bit more current draw.

Paul
18 ga - 10 amp (very common)
16 ga - 13 amp
14 ga - 15 amp

Ratings are for 6' cords.
