How to use (2) cabs with PF500 ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just tested the Ampeg PF500, it only has one speaker output at 4ohm 500 watts.
My existing cabinets are 1x15" at 4ohms and one 2x10" at 4ohms.
How do I run these cabs with the P500 and get the full 500 watts ?
Do i run in parallel, i will only be doing 2 ohms ?

You can not run these cabs together. You need either 1 ea. 4 ohm cab or 2 ea. 8 ohm cabs.

If the amp only has one output some cabs will have a parallel outputs so you can daisy chain more than one cab but you still need to be aware of impedances when combining cabs.

Good luck!

If the PF 500 doesn't run below 2 ohms, then you can't run both of those cabs, and you're getting the full 500 Watts into any single 4 ohm cab anyways.

This is why no one should buy a small 4 ohm cab. Useless they are, for all but a few rare occasions. Your 2 cabs combined will present a 2 ohm load to that amp, which will NOT work out well for very long. You can use use either/or, but then you're trying to pump 500 watts into a cab that can't handle HALF that. I'd sell them both, and start over with ONE 8 ohm 4x10 or 2x12.
