A GK 1001RB-II head on an Avatar 210NEO cab? Is the 210 worth the 400 bucks I'd be spending on it? I'll be using this for coffee house gigs, rehearsals, and occasional club gigs with possibility of adding a B212 or TB153 cab later on.
I was originally going for a $500-700 combo but I figured at my budget I might as well go for a quality head/cab setup and buy half of it now, half later. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Any advice would be much appreciated! | first thought: 2x10 will only push so much air, period. I have used a 2x10 rig many times for small gigs, and it's fine... but beyond small you better have a GREAT 2x10.
2nd thought: For $400, you could get a used Berg or Epifani (both of which I'd prefer over and avatar)
3rd thought: That head would be too much head for the cab. Save your money and get something with less wattage / weight.

I'd like it even better if the cab were used and less expensive - more bang for the buck.

| | | | i've never heard of anybody saying, "man, i wish my bass head had less wattage!"
if you can swing a high-power head, you can use it for everything.
a 2x10 for little gigs; a second 2x10 (always better not to mix cab types) for bigger gigs.
for me it's a 1500w crest power amp, with one LDS compact 15 cab for quiet gigs and two for bringin' it.
