Hows do ohms work?

What happens if you hook a 8ohm cab to a 4 in series, or 2 8 ohms or 2 4ohm cabs and so on. My head says it can't go below 4 and I want to learn how this works so I don't do something stupid.

Yeah I've never really messed with electricity, don't really understand it. Its all just painful magic to me. lol
