My band had a gig last Thursday and I was a bit disappointed with my rig. It was an AER Head One with AER cabs. A good rig, but not right for rock. I wasn't alone in my disappointment; the drummer and guitarist had less than flattering comments when I asked them about it.
I took the rig to Jive Sound in Arlington, VA to put it on consignment. I was telling Jong that I wanted something more classic-sounding and he showed me an EBS Classiclines 410 he had received. He didn't care to keep it in the shop and only got it because the distributor cut him a deal. He offered it me at a really good price and so I plugged it into an Agular DB751 for a test run. It wasn't too impressive at first, but got better as I tweaked the amp settings. I decided it was worth getting.
Then as luck would have it, a guy came in with an EBS TD650 that he wanted to trade in on a Euphonic Audio amp. I plugged the TD650 to the cab and it was a MUCH better match! All of a sudden, the combination was articulate and punchy yet had a good degree of old school warmth. So the TD650 owner and I worked out a deal and I walked out with a completely new rig.
