Ok, so I live in an apartment and I needed a practice amp that wasn't going to rattle the walls and have people banging on my doors.

I went to a local music store and found a Phil Jones flight case amp which I tried out with a MusicMan Stingray 5 string. I don't know if there was a problem with this particular amp, but it wouldn't stop distorting. Even the guy helping me at the store couldn't figure out what was causing the distortion, so I left that and moved on...

Then I saw the Genz Benz combo amps with the detachable heads. I plugged the Stingray into one with an 8 inch speaker and a 300 watt head.

WOW! I could crank this amp and put the Stingray on FULL bass boost and it wouldn't distort! Also, the amp sounds incredible set flat.

I was a little on the fence about whether to get the 10 or the 8 inch speaker. I'm glad I went with the 8" because when I got home with it and plugged it up - I could fill the apartment with a rich bass sound with the amp volume on 3. Any more and I would definitely be shaking the walls.

I am just super impressed with this little combo!

Great! I have the Shuttle 6.0 12" combo and I sure like it.
I didn't know that GB made an 8" speaker cab. I know they make the 10", and 12" .... never heard or have seen the 8"

Yup... here's a link to it: http://www.genzbenz.com/?fa=detail&m...sid=610&cid=95

What's hilarious is, I have a Lakland 55-02 that I play through it, and the bass is a lot heavier than the combo! lol

I also drive a Honda Civic SI and the combo will fit in the front passenger floorboard without me having to adjust the seat.

Edit: I should add that it's only 300 watts with an extension cab - it runs 175W right now, which is fine for me.

No problem - I had no idea either until I walked into the music store.

I have a Shuttle 3.0 combo with the 10" speaker as well. I am constantly impressed with it. As a practice amp it has the extra benefit of being completely silent (no fan).

I find that even with an extension cab the 3.0 does not have the power to stand up to a rock band with drummer, loud guitarist. I need to expand. But I'm keeping my Shuttle 3.0 cause it is so good for home use and for playing with just me and an acoustic guitarist.

Yeah, I will probably get a couple of the GB 2x10 extension cabs and put the head on those when playing with a drummer.
