I am crazy for wanting to go back to Eden rig...

...or just play it safe and get the WTDI????

The past several years, I've bounced back and forth from GK and Eden stuff. I currently have a full GK stack (410, 115) with 1001RB-II. Once again, I'm missing my WT300/400. It's just "warmer" overall. I hate it that I keep doing this---its getting expensive.

I wonder how the WTDI thru the GK "send" would be???

I did similar bouncing. held on to older gk, but tried & loved eden, with a bit of swr and ampeg mixed in between.
Never had better overall sound than 800b through 410xlt, but the weight was killer....then a/b ing my backup wt400 with older backup 80's gk 400rb, noticed that I never got the high end response (through same cabs) from the eden heads the way the gk delivers it....but if you can do with out the crisp top end...eden has wonderful overall tone.

I don't have any experience with the WTDI, but I found this:

Yeah, it's this thread that got me to thinking WTDI-----much cheaper alternative. I use the Eden setting on my POD a lot too, but its not the same.

My eden WT550 is the backbone of my sound and power. seasoned with bergantino and aguilar cabs, fine tuned with tech21 VTbass pedal. I don't blame you for going back. GK is good but different the eden. keep as much GK as you can when you need a change. maybe a practice rig or home thing.

Why did you drop the Eden stuff for GK?

When I got my Eden WT400 stolen I figured it was a good time to try a heap of new stuff to see what was out there and if something better matched my tastes.....I bought an Eden WT800B.

Then the turd who stole my WT400 got caught and I got that back too!

At the time, I was playing a Peavey G Bass and an active Jazz--I was wanting a more clean amp with some bite. It was great at the time, but I always come back wanting something more wooly. I just really dug my Eden stuff.

I've only had the WT300 and WT400--I presume the lightweight stuff now is not the same??

I ran a GK head & Hartke 4x10 XL for ten years. Great stuff, punchy, crispy but
sold it all after trying my Eden WT400. I have GAS for a new mini head like the GK 500
or Benz SL but I would take a bath on trading the Eden.

The WTX series amps are Golden Ear chip equipped and sound like the WT-405, ie less punchy in the low mids. Since the EQ on those amps are limited to 550 Hz and 2.2kHz, you won't be able to dial those low mids back in if you want.

I recorded a demo of the WTDI vs WT-405 vs WT-400 a few months ago. IMO, the WTDI sounds like the WT-400 and not the WT-405, which makes sense considering that the WTDI does not have the Golden Ear Chip.

Here's where you can find the audio demo and more info on the WTDI:

I like to keep both flavors around. I'm very fond of my new GK MB Fusion, but will likely never sell my '95 WT300 (upgraded to 400). Both badges have great characteristic sounds and many loyal users. I'd be interested in hearing how the WTDI sounds through the GK power section if you decide to go for it.

I've sold a bunch of my Eden gear (WT-800B, D-410XLT, D-210XLT) but I still have my WT-300 and D-210XST, not to mention my WTX-500 and WTDI. The D-210XST has been for sale for a while, but I think I'm going to hang on to it to pair with the WT-300, which is the type locality of Eden tone.

Nothing else sounds like Eden, so if that's the sound you like, you have to have Eden. So no, you're not crazy. You may be crazy if you don't.

BTW, The WTDI sounds great, but it takes a little knob tweaking the get that "everything-at-noon" tone of the WT series.

Ok, that makes sense. Your tone requirements have changed. I hereby grant you permission to buy an Eden rig

Sorry to bump a slightly old thread, but how do you find the WTX-500 compares with the WT-300 and the WTDI?

I currently have a WTX-260 that I like but I wish I was able to increase the lower mids on it slightly. There is a youtube demo of the WT-300 that sounds great when the guy turns the lower mids up a bit on the semi-parametric EQ, this is what I'd like the WTX-260 to sound like.

I've read Duff's thread over at the Eden forum and it seems that the WTDI uses a different preamp chip to the WTX amps. How similar do you find the WTX and the WTDI to sound? Have you tried running the WTDI through the WTX power section?

Well, I'm now on the darkside.....3Pro via 810. I'm looking at a silver front 810E tomorrow to match. The 810 I have now is a ported Peavey 810TX which I like as well. The Ampeg 810 will give me more punch. I might keep both cabs. Currently, I'm VERY happy with the 3Pro.
