I have come to a major realization about my amp.

Well, today I decided to plug my headphones into my amp just for fun. WOW. It sounded... amazing! I always thought my bass sounded deep and growly, but when I plugged my headphones in, it sounded bright and jazzy! I loved it! So now, that made me realize that my first priority when it comes time to upgrade is to get a new amp rather than a new bass. The difference was like night and day.

If anyone here hasn't tried it yet, I highly recommend it. It's like finding out things you never knew about a friend (your guitar) who you've known for a long time.

I have an Acoustic B10 if anyone is wondering.

It's the speaker that's failing you. The amp would sound closer to what you heard in the headphones played through a quality full range cab. Although you'd need more power/more speakers to get that sound at a level to be heard in a band/group.

I know that. I just thought this might be a good lesson to those who search forever to find the perfect guitar, when the real improvement comes from the amp.

Most people on this site won't admit to playing guitars, although I'm not ashamed to say I do sometimes, although not nearly as well as a bass.

I meant guitar as in bass guitar. It certainly holds true to both though

Transducers are often the weak link.

If you try it lots of different headphones, you'll be likely to hear significant differences attributable to the 'phones themselves; I don't enjoy listening to bass through cheap headphones, but with high-quality headphones, the sound can be astoundingly good!

Even a great bass and amp can sound mediocre through cheap speakers; it's definitely worth buying the best cabs you can afford: Buy Once, Cry Once!
