What are the impedances of the 2x10 and the 4x10??? If by fluttery you mean the speakers are farting (hate that word - we really should come up with a more Genteel term) then yes you certainly can damage them.

I also dislike the term "farting", though I do admit it's a similar type sound. Also, +1 to BmanPauls query, more info needed.

Sometimes loudspeaker enclosure ports will "chuff" at very, very low frequencies.

Hi.

Yep, more info is needed.

To me, fluttery would mean the un-damped sound a speaker makes when operated in free air or in a vented enclosure well below the tuning frequency (same thing really). The damage is almost unavoidable.

The poorly engineered ports Bob mentioned are often very noisy as well.

Sam

Try turning down your bass knob on the VT or the amp. See if that helps.

ok so i blew my tweeter and took it out to see if it was causing the rattling, turns out the farting noise is the air coming out of the tweeter port.

the speakers hold up fine most of the time unless im running more into them than i should be. but since i play with fuzz there not a ton of low end and the 6 10's are really punchy so theres really not as big a problem as i thought.
