I know this is a idiotic question... BUT:

How many ohms is a old 1970 Blueline Ampeg SVT amp ?

As funny as it sounds, I've owned on for a couple years now, and do not know this. Why ? Well on the back or anywhere on it, it does not mention it at all. Nor is there a switch to changed Ohm'age. Which I find odd cause I've recently learned how vastly important this is !

I don't want to ruin it or my cab(s), so best question is, what Ohm'ed cabs should I match with that amp ? I really would like to do 4ohm and 8ohm cabs... BUT since there is no switch on it to change, I guess I am stuck to the one and only ohm'age that it is, BUT what is that ?

Thanks !

I don't have the specs on the original. The new ones, which are SUPPOSED to be identical electrically to the old ones, can drive any single speaker between 2 ohms and 4 ohms and any combination of speakers that have a total impedance of 2 ohms to 4 ohms. That allows you to run a combination of almost any 2 cabs within reason.

You can run either a single 4Ω cab or two 4Ω cabs through both outputs for a 2Ω total load.

I think you would need a splitter cable or would need to daisy chain the cabs for running two 8Ω cabs in parallel for a 4Ω load in order for the load to match the amp impedance. The amp would likely be okay running 2Ω output into 4Ω combined load, but the output power would be a lot less than optimal.

You cannot run a single 2Ω cab.

awkward is right. i don't think the new ones require you to daisy chain to a 4 ohm load, but the old ones definitely do.

roulette records, eh? are you in the mafia?

I remember reading about the jacks being wired so the 2ohm tap on the transformer would be automatically used if any plug (even an unloaded one, i.e. just a plug) was inserted in the main speaker jack and a second one in the other jack. I own one and I forgot to ask the tech about this, out of sheer curiosity, when I got it serviced.

If this is correct then you could plug a 2ohm speaker cab in one of the outlets and a dummy plug in the other, though I wouldn't attempt it until someone with a better memory and more experience than myself chimes in.
