I might have broken my peavey! Help!

I think I may have a problem with my peavey tour 700 head and avatar 212.

I'm playing at a loud volume today, and the DDT starts lighting up on the amp. I'm not hearing any distortion from the amp, but a good tone.

Could there be a problem with the head?

My old Nitro head lights up the DDT all the time. No big deal, it's just doing what it's supposed to do.

The purpose of the DDT is to prevent distortion, no?

Yes, but I'm not actually hearing distortion from the amp.

Then, to my understanding, it is doing its job. If I have it right, if the light was going off and there was still distortion then you would have a problem.

Well there is a slight distortion, something that sounds good in a rock mix, but hardly audible.

I wouldn't say broken, but just wondering if that is bad for the amp.

My first thought!

I have an old XR600 series that is at least 21 years old (bought it new). It has failed on me twice, both times the pre-s all worked fine, but I had to find another power amp for it. Cost about $100 each time. Twice in 21 years....

I have the Peavey Tour 450.

The DDT (when engaged) is designed to protect your speakers. If it is on, it is doing its job. Flickering is best, occasionally on is fine, steady on through the whole song is not really good. You should dial back the gain, adjust your effects, and so on. That being said, you can't hurt the amp.

Check out www.peavey.com and download the instructions for the head. It will give you a better idea of how it works.
