I miss my cabs

Well the verdict is in .,.. I played two gigs thru the PA without my cabs. The result:

1. The crowd could actually carry on a conversation.
2. Everyone in the band could be heard.
3. The drummer only used brushes.
4. I only had to bring my bass.
5. No more carrying amps and cabs.
6. We sounded like Muzak.

I still miss my amps and the punch... will play thru a backline any day. PA is for vocals.

Yeah, nothing beats having your fav cabs with you, however, my lower back is way more important so I favor PA these days.

Even a tiny cab at a very low volume appeals to me more than running through the PA without a cab. I hate monitors, although I guess for some they could be an option. Not for me, though.

I agree with Jimmy. Part of what I consider my "sound" is produced by my amplification system. What I get out of PA system is a generic version of me.

I'm with them guys, my tone is a combination of everything from my fingers to my speaker cabs. I won't gig without any of it.

I like having the responsibility of producing the stage sound; the sound that inspires me; the sound that inspires the band. That, generally, doesn't come from a shared monitor wedge.

While I agree with what the others are saying regarding having your own amp on stage, I have to completely disagree with the highlighted portions of your rant.

Those things I highlighted is only the fault of a low budget/bad P.A.

If you have ever played through a *REAL* P.A., your opinion would be different.

No matter how loud you could make your stage volume, it is not going to kick you in the chest at the back of a large room - only a P.A. with good subs, and lots of watts can do that.
