I need to buy a rig This weekend....help

Sign in to disble this ad
Thought I had this figured out guys and was buying a GB Shuttle 6.0 used, but the deal fell thru. I need something for next week.

I'm gonna make the trek to guitar center and there is another music store in the area today to try as much as I can. What should I definitely try out. This will be my first "gig worthy" rig, so I don't know much.

I have about $800 too spend total and need head and cab or a good combo.

Want something that will keep up with a loud drummer at rehearsals. I'll be playing a variety of music, country, southern rock, hard rock.

Any ideas?

Well, you were on the right track with Genz Benz. If either place has anything Genz start there. Otherwise it depends on what's in stock I guess.

Yeah, I always search CL....I figure if I don't find anything I'll still have time to order from MF or something...a member did price me a GK 700RBII reasonably, but I don't know anything about them either

Try and get your hands on a second hand Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout combo. Used, they're right in your price range— and either the 12" or 15" will make both you and your band mates very happy... and blow your socks off at the same time.

I've played 'em all, and IMO, the 700rb-II is one of the best bass amps ever made - combine that with a good used 410, and you're good to go...

Whatever you do, don't skimp on the speakers. With an $800 budget, consider $500 as the spkr cab, the rest for a head. 300+ watts will do, 4x10 bare bones minimum.

Get an 800 or 700rb and an Ampeg 810e and call it a day. I'm running 800rb with an 810 and it sounds perfect for what I do. If you're patient you could find this rig for $800 I paid $900 for my total rig and I didn't have to look very hard.

700rbii is a great amp and cover whatever you need to do. 410 yes, a single 15 no. 212 or 215 yes. Just to make sure you can get loud enough without straining equipment.

Yes . A 700rbII will work great with a 410 just as georgestrings has said . With just a 115 probably not so much . A 212 or 215 would also work well .

Whoops Will beat me to it .

A 410 would be just fine I gigged with a 1001rb and then an 800rb through a 410sbx for years. I just got really tired of lugging the 410 around. I was always hunched over to push it around and I hated dead lifting it into my car. The 810 is beautiful, just tilt it back and I can stand straight to push it around and then open the hatch of my car (civic and rabbit) and slide it in.

I would like to see this car...this strange unnatural combination of Civic and Rabbit.

Been there done that. It sucks to be down to the wire with no rig.

At this late date, forget brand specific searches and look for a good 410 and an amp with enough output to power it at the volume you require without clipping.

It may not be exactly what you want, but it will buy you the time to find exactly what you want.

I used a Hartke 410XL and an SWR Basic 350 in all manner of bars playing the kind of music you are doing for a number of years and there was only a couple times I wished I'd had more volume.

Stick with GB. Check my profile and some of my threads... I have owned or used dang near everything commercially available. A lot of companies make a great head and drop the ball on their enclosures..... that's why you have so many people practically crap their pants when they hear a Bergantino or DNA or other properly designed cabinet after years of Ampeg and GK. Genz Benz makes some of the best amps, and THE best cabinets of all the "non-boutique" companies. The new Streamliner 900 is one of the most impressive amps I've ever played, and costs less than half as much as some amps that weigh 10 times as much and dont sound any better or do anything more..... GB all the way IMHO.

Thanks for the info guys, I got the 700RBII of a fellow TB'r today. Now just gotta get a cab, started another thread about it like an idiot instead of posting in here...been one of those days. I played a GK 700 thru a GK Neo 410 and liked it, I wanted to try a 212, but they didn't have one. I can get the GK Neo 212 for about 100 bucks cheaper than the 410. Just don't know which to go with
