Sign in to disble this ad
hi

i currently have a ashdown abm500 575w in 4 ohms running into a big oldschool 410 which is a 600w 8 ohm cabinet. i am thinking about getting a second cab to get some more volume i cant decide between a 2x12 or a 1x15. i play all sorts of music. anyone got any expericences with good cabs in either group that would be a good buy? or suggestions on how to get some more volume from my current rig?

cheers,
ben

Most volume out of your setup - get an identical 410. Getting a different cabinet or even a different brand COULD sound great, but will most likely not work too well. Do a search on the forum for mixing driver sizes and so on.

If the 410 you use is hard to find, you might be better off keeping it for practicing with bands and finding two identical 410's for shows.

Same cabs and speaker configuration is a 99% chance to sound great and really loud. 1% is the factor for mis-wired cabs and broken equipment.

Get another *identical* cab. This will ensure you get a consistent sound. Or a new pair of 410 cabs if necessary.

If you absolutely have to mix cabs for whatever reasons, get something that is as loud as your current 410. Any other 410 cab or a 212 cab. Avoid smaller cabs to avoid drowning the volume oof the smaller cab.

Get a couple of 2x12 and stack them vertically. Look for sensitivity in preference to power handling. 3dB takes twice the power to catch up.
