Hey everyone.
I'm fairly certain my amp is hitting the grave soon. Right now I have an Ashdown MAG300. I liked it, it gave me the sound I was looking for, but it didn't last very long. Recently, it's been losing volume and cracking a lot. I've tried out another head because I was certain it was my cab, but it worked fine.

My main problem is I don't want to replace my cab. I want to find something that I like that won't involve me getting rid of my Ampeg SVT15E. It's rated at 200W at 8 ohms (I think, could be 4 ohms). I wanted to get the Orange Bass Terror, but I would need a new speaker or another cab. I had a GK Backline 600 and it was just okay.

I play indie rock, and my playing has a smoother deeper sound. I'm using an Aeordyne Jazz bass. I can link to my band's myspace, but isn't that against the rules if I'm not a supporting member? My sig gives enough information for you to figure it out anyway.

1) A visit to a tech would be cheaper than a new head.
2) Why would it force you to get a new cab?
3) What set of rules is everybody reading?
4) Why would you worry about providing a MySpace link when it's clearly in your signature?

+1 on sending your Ashdown to the amp shop. A repair is usually always cheaper than buying another head. Also, a single 15" cab will limit your volume, no matter the head you use. Consider a 410, 212, or even adding another 15.

Hi.

"I need a new head. Mine is probably dead" , I've had days like that as well.

As for the problem, random cracles and volume losses are most of the time the result of dirty/oxidized jack switches, mainly in the FX loop (if there's one). Pays to check that out first with a jumper cable.

Regards
Sam
