I need tone help! (Aguilar) video included

Sign in to disble this ad
OK So I recently purchased a aguilar GS412 and TH500. As of now, i dont like it, its not my sound. I have tried to nail it down but i just cant get a tone that I like. Ive included a video of how I liked my tone before, but I had to get rid of the GK stuff because of reliability issues. Can any aguilar gear help me get this sound? I was thinking of switching the TH500 for a AG500 or a DB751, but i dont think any of these amps will help me get closer to this tone either. My other thoughts are to get the Epifani UL501 and 610 or 310, or both. I need some help for sure, i cant play any of these amps anywhere in my area. Here is the video, if you know of an amp that would get me close to this tone, let me know. PLEASE HELP! Heres the vid Thanks in advance!

Nice playing bro and nice tone. Which part of your GK rig did you find to be unreliable? I never had problems with GK amps. I've not used their cabs before however.

From my understanding GK has their own unique thing going on sound wise.

Thanks man. The cabs. I had 2 212 cabs go out on me. GK took care of them and fixed them, but I just didnt want to have to deal with it again.

Thanks guys. I liked the tone also. I just couldnt deal with the amps, i had some probs with GK, that they fixed, but it wasnt really worth it for me to keep dealing with them (all just personal) I figured the Epifani gear has the same high end detail. I think i went the complete wrong direction with the aguilar gear. Think so? Im just trying to not buy the wrong gear again, ive done this for years now! lol

I don't think your issue is with the head - it is the cabinet. I find the GS to be relatively mid scooped. The TH500 is a fairly mid present head run flat but I wasn't crazy about the combination with a GS cab. I run Berg AE210s and like it a lot. If you want to stay Aggie I'd think about a DB, or if you want something different a pair of the new Baer 1-12 cabs would be killer with a TH500. I don't think an Epi cab will get you there either.

My thoughts as well. I'd try out a DB series if I were you...

You guys sound great BTW!

This was my problem with the GS series also but I like the GS412 cab because it is so easy to move so I swapped out the top two speakers for Eminence Delta 12B's and it made a huge difference in the upper mid clarity that these cabs lack so badly.I also put a Delta in my GB Neox212t and it opened up the clarity on it a little but mainly smoothed out the mid hump that those cabs have and gave it more bottom end,and for the record my preferred tone is very mid heavy.
It's not perfect but much better than before, good enough to keep.
A little off track but I am finding that if you use a fairly flat bass cab similar to PA cabs then it is much easier to get "your sound" to the F.O.H. instead of tweaking your on board EQ or amp setting to get your stage sound right through some odd bass cab and messing up the house sound.
just my .02

Kjung here on TB is a great resource because he buys and tries a lot of gear. Check him out. He also demos a lot of it on Youtube, but I found that emailing him for ideas was perfect. In the end I didn't take all of his suggestions, but I would have if I could have afforded it. And since you are a full time musician, I bet you are ready to invest appropriately in order to get your rig where you need it.

Your song sounded great, and your playing was a real treat! Best of luck!

First, +1 you're an awesome player- nice groove on that song, and again, +1 to the Aggie DB series cabs. I left my Mesa cabs for DB's. Worth a shot- good luck.
