I put the coolest amp together.

Sign in to disble this ad
1970 SVT and a 1967 PortaFlex column cab
with 2 JBL 2220h's.
4 ohm and it'll handle 400 watts RMS.
Man those JBL's are LOUD.
I'm wanting to double the cab and I'd have a monster.

I have a earlie gig tomorrow evening so it's loaded up right now in the garage. I'll get it together.

Put the SVT head on the cab to the right of it.
Now load that cab with 2220's.

sweet

Can we get a report on the sound and the fury? Especially in comparison to the usual 8-10.

my understanding w/older JBLs, esp w/Xmax like this one has, you have to be careful how much power you pump through them:

http://www.jblpro.com/pub/obsolete/2220hj.pdf

Can't comment on the "pro" 22xx series but having used D/E/K140s you have to keep it 100 watts or less per driver.

Also, how is that cabinet you're using sized and tuned?

Others more knowledgeable will hopefully chime in but thought I'd at least mention this....... Love the look and idea, though.

The stats on the 2220's claim 200 watts continuous program.
40Hz -2KHz

Reguardless ,I want to double up the cab with another column or 2 single flip tops cabs.

one has to be careful w/power claims, esp w/older drivers. Just sayin'.........

Regardless, going for two more of those drivers w/that amp would be very cool

I wish Ampeg would bring that look back. Probably pretty costly in this day and age, though.

nonsense. i've run my GK1001RB (700 watts) at practically full tilt all night long (5 sets) thru two K140's on many gigs with no problem whatsoever. JBL rated the K140 at 150 watts (continuous sine wave) which is running them pretty hard and i've found even that spec to be very conservative. and being that JBLs are so sensitive, they are extrmely loud with ALOT less power running thru them. the D, K and E 140's also allow up to 1/2" of xmax so they have plenty of low end punch. i just got two more K140's this week, so now i'm up to having eight of them.
