I SOLD EVERYTHING I DID

Sign in to disble this ad
I played a gig last week, and just got tired of lugging all that heavy stuff, I'am not getting any younger. I sold my 310212 and my 700 SWR Fender 800 a bunch of stuff. I bought a MarkBass Jeff Berlin 15 combo and a MarkBass NY 15 cab. I had it one night played a gig the next day, and loved it, i got a lot of nice remarks from people about how cool my sound was and it had great lows. We played about 300 people no problems had power to spare. I don't know how dependable they are, so I went an bought the extra year warranty just in case. My cousin done the same thing, he has already got the Berlin combo but he said he is going with the Markbass NY 12 cab to go with it. He thinks it will give him a better sound then two 15s. I say what ever floats your boat. We both love the amp. You guy's must think I'am completely insane. One thing I don't have to drive that gas hog Dodge Durango to gigs anymore I can put everything in the Ford Focus.

It's called streamlining.
Nice job, and hope it works out for you.

+1. Nothing wrong with that move, there's some wonderful light gear out there. As long as it works for you, that's what matters.

The best thing about my "light" rig is that I can fit all of this in a PT Cruiser comfortably, plus the guitarist and his axe.

Yeah, I did this a few years back. I had a Mesa 400 with an EV B-410 cab. I loved it, but the cab was nearly 100 lbs, and I lived in an upstairs apartment. Also, most of the gigs I got were outdoors, and several ran off of generated power. Compounding all of this was me getting laid off from my day job. So I got a GK 800RB, and made 2 lightweight cabs for an old EVL 15" and an Eminence Delta 12". Now my entire rig weighs less than the old cab, and I can close my trunk after it's all loaded in. A few years before, I downsized my church rig. I sold my 90 lb SWR Readhead and got an Ampeg Portabass 250 & 2-10 cab, which sounds a lot fuller, and weighs about half of what the SWR weighed.

Man it was cool, after the gig I was pack up and ready to go home in 10 minutes maybe less. I didn't need anyones help either. I'am having my wife make me some padded covers to go over them. Because they are lighter, it's easier not to knock them around so bad. They might stay looking better longer. Like I said I just hope they turn out to be reliable, I sure like them.

i did that very same thing Fred...sold some heavy Trace gear and bought the Berlin and A 115 cab....under 90 pounds total and in and out in minutes! Best move i've made in years.....still got a bunch of heavy gear if i wanna remember how much it sucks to load if necessary! Gotta remember to dust it off occasionally...

This is my exact rig, I've been gigging it regularly (averaging 2X per week) for the past two years, not one glitch, just pure clean power and reliability.

Congrats, enjoy the new era.

I lugged a giant 2x15 cab and head for years. THEN I got my MB 12" combo, which takes care of MOST club gigs and then a Schroeder 2x12 cab that adds PLENTY of power and is nearly as small as the MB. AND - the amp and add-on cab fit in my car trunk along with more stuff. I could never go back.

A GB Shuttle 6.0 head and GB112 and 110 cabinets and a Thunderchild 112 are my array. Whatever the gig, my gear weight is less than the guitarist's. Whoda thunkit?

I just played my 3rd gig with my Jeff Berlin combo, it was at a gig where 8 other bands played. Again I got good remarks on my sound, this time I used it by itself and they DI me true the P.A. even the sound man like it. I can't wait until I can get rid of my Carvin BRX12 and get a Neo 15 are 210 to use with it when I have to. I know the BRX12 is suppose to be a neo cab but those 212s and cab weigh 70 t0 80 pounds. So far that MarkBass is the best money I have ever spent. I got to say the band after us, the bass player played a Acoustic B450 combo it sounded pretty good, but he also was an awesome bass player.

Congrats on a good move.

I did this several years ago and love it. I went from a huge head and a heavy 4x12 cab to a much smaller setup. For a couple of years, my gig rig consisted of an SVT 3 Pro, a GS112 and a jazz bass.

Now, I have two GS112's, two Thunderfunks, and two jazzes. (the extra TF and jazz are backups, I'm anal about something going wrong).

I can get all of that, plus my backpack with all the extra stuff in it in the back seat of my truck. My guitar stand even fits in my backpack. I got serious about down sizing and it is great.

Once again, congratulations.

I've been thinking about getting a second Neo212, but am not quite sure if it's really necessary. How do you like playing with two of those bad boys?

It's great. Since BFM suggested a while back that I point the bottom cab at the drummer and the top one at me, there are no more complaints from the rest of the band that they can't hear me.

I'm doing the same thing. My WT-800 is history as are my D-410XLT, D-210XLT, and HT322. Regrettably, my Glockenklang Heart-Rock and Quattro are on the block (see ads). I also shed my heavy EAW PA stuff for lighter JBL PRX powered speakers.

For replacement, I've got Bergantino AE 210, AE212 and AE410 cabs, GB Shuttle 9.0 and Eden WTX-500. I'm working on getting a TC RH750. That should pretty much wrap things up.

I really like the Carvin 212 but again it is just a pain to load and unload. One of the young guitar players I know, said I was just getting to be a big sissy. I told him I don't know I am sure getting good feed back on my sound. And when you get my age and have a couple of screws in one shoulder get back to me. I am playing the same place's I was using my SWR 700 head Aguilar 212 and a 15 are sometimes 18 bottom. With a Fender P, and I am getting better remarks with MarkBass amp.

I'll raise that bid and say that I am selling my whole rig and going D.I. only.
